September 4, 2012: visit

I went to visit Mom at Bedford Place yesterday.  It was only 10:30 AM and she was eating lunch.  The staff said that she was hungry.  The meal was beef stew with mashed potatoes.  All Mom would eat was the meat.   I told her that she couldn't have dessert unless she ate some of the veggies.  She really is like a little kid these days, except more demanding.

Dessert was bowl of watermelon that she gobbled right down.

I told her to go in the family room so she could watch me put up a bird feeder.  Just about every time I visit I find her staring out the front window.  I asked Linda, the manager, if I could bring a bird feeder and she approved.

So, I had to wash the window, attach the suction cups and fill it with birdseed.  Then I went in and sat with Mom.  After about 10 minutes she rolled herself out of the room and went back into the dining room.  When she didn't come back I went in to check on her.  She was sitting in there "supervising" - watching the other people eat.  I told her I was leaving.  She acted surprised and asked me why.  I told her that watching people eat was boring to me.

After her birthday she had some bad days of wanting to go to Rochester and calling people to pick her up and take her to the airport.  I asked the doctor to give her a small dose of an anti-anxiety drug.  She is doing well now.  The med didn't make her drowsy.  It just helped calm her nerves.

She actually enjoys herself at the home.  I think she has made herself "The Boss!"

September 4, 2012

I had to work last Friday, 8/31/12.  I left the office and got home around 5 PM.  Jim was exercising with Lupita so I had the house to myself.

Instead of enjoying the time alone I decided to put up a new bird feeder.  This one attaches to the window with suction cups.  First, I had to wash the window.  I went out the back door in the family room to get to the window.  A chair and a table were blocking the way.  So, I decided to rearrange the furniture also.

Moving a chair put a bump in the area rug.  My foot caught on the bump and I fell face first onto our small cat tree.  There was an extra pole sticking up out of the top of the tree.  I managed to push it aside a little but it caught my neck and gave me a big boo boo.  I bruised my arms and right knee, too.

I was going to get right back to moving furniture but my neck really hurt.  I looked in the mirror and decided I needed to sit down with an ice pack.

When Lupita came back with Jim she helped me finish moving the furniture.  But first she wanted to take a picture of my latest injury.  Here it is:

I've covered it with makeup to go to work today.  It doesn't look all that bad anymore.
