Andy and I had a fun 3 day road trip to Portland. We arrived on May 19th and he helped me settle into my new apartment. We met up with Kevin and his family and enjoyed time together.
I slept on the floor for 3 nights and was anticipating the arrival of my Houston belongings on May 23rd. Andy flew back to Houston on May 22nd.
That morning I bathed and dyed Sweetsie in the apartment complex dog bath area. I took her for a walk in the late afternoon. Sweetsie loved all the attention she was receiving from people because she was dyed a bright pink.
There was one person who didn't even see us - a Trimet bus driver. We were on our way back to the apartment. We were in the crosswalk. The bus driver failed to stop at the stop sign. Not only that he didn't look where he was going as he made a left turn and plowed in to us.
The bus threw me down shattering my right femur and giving me a major concussion. I needed 2 surgeries and 2 stints in a nursing home.
Life is a crap shoot. We anticipate a good outcome but we have no control over it. I rolled the dice when I moved to Portland. I was looking forward to participating in the art scene, making new friends, enjoying the city. But, I had a poor roll of the dice.
I've worked hard to make a good life for myself here. I'm reasonably happy. Now I try to enjoy one day at a time.
