I went to visit Mom at Bedford Place yesterday. It was only 10:30 AM and she was eating lunch. The staff said that she was hungry. The meal was beef stew with mashed potatoes. All Mom would eat was the meat. I told her that she couldn't have dessert unless she ate some of the veggies. She really is like a little kid these days, except more demanding.
Dessert was bowl of watermelon that she gobbled right down.
I told her to go in the family room so she could watch me put up a bird feeder. Just about every time I visit I find her staring out the front window. I asked Linda, the manager, if I could bring a bird feeder and she approved.
So, I had to wash the window, attach the suction cups and fill it with birdseed. Then I went in and sat with Mom. After about 10 minutes she rolled herself out of the room and went back into the dining room. When she didn't come back I went in to check on her. She was sitting in there "supervising" - watching the other people eat. I told her I was leaving. She acted surprised and asked me why. I told her that watching people eat was boring to me.
After her birthday she had some bad days of wanting to go to Rochester and calling people to pick her up and take her to the airport. I asked the doctor to give her a small dose of an anti-anxiety drug. She is doing well now. The med didn't make her drowsy. It just helped calm her nerves.
She actually enjoys herself at the home. I think she has made herself "The Boss!"
